House Of Children

“Montessori is an education for independence, preparing not just for school, but for life”

- Dr. Maria Montessori

HOUSE OF CHILDREN ( Ages – 3 to 6 years )

The House of Children at Aarambh is designed to cater to the needs of children in the age group 3 to 6 years. It is based on the Montessori principles of multi-sensory, hands-on, experiential learning.

Practical Life skills

One of the first goals of Aarambh is to instill in your child a strong sense of independence and self-reliance. Along with love and a stable environment, this is the child’s greatest need. This area of the curriculum focusses on developing skills that will allow your child to effectively control and deal with the social and physical environment in which he lives. There is a growing pride in being able to ‘do it for myself’.

Practical life begins as soon as the child enters the House of children and continues throughout the curriculum to more advanced tasks as appropriate to the child’s development. These include activities where the child can care for himself as well as his environment and take an active part   in his household, neighbourhood and school. The child’s motor skills develop as he works on these daily functions.

Sensorial Activities

At a very young age, child’s senses are highly active and they are the most important means of learning. The child is constantly absorbing everything around him. The sensorial activities allow the child to explore his five senses, which are responsible for building his intelligence. The tools used for these activities are prepared scientifically and isolate the physical property of matter under study, like colour, size, shape, texture, weight and so on.  These activities also help your child gain pre-math skills.

Your child will be helped to develop a rich vocabulary and gain command over the English language through various materials and language cards. The alphabet is introduced as phonetic sounds and the children are helped to listen to sounds in words and also form words. Writing and reading come naturally to a child in a Montessori house of children, because of the various activities, that prepare a child for the same. Various grammatical concepts are introduced to the child. We introduce our children to the function of the parts of speech through many interesting games and exercises. Creative writing is also included in the language curriculum.

Hindi is offered as a second language, wherein children will be introduced to the alphabet, writing and reading.

Arithmetic is introduced as concrete concepts to a child’s hands and senses. He can feel small and large quantities. Numbers as large as millions are handled by children. Arithmetical operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are introduced first, as concepts using games and later as individualized activities. Children develop a natural liking for numbers. As the child understands these mathematical concepts he is slowly moved from concrete knowledge towards abstraction.

Children are born curious and the science activities at Aarambh help satiate the child’s natural curiosity to learn.Children are given hands-on experience on various scientific concepts as individualized activities.
